+ UCSD CNG Fueling Facility | under construction
landLAB | San Diego, California+

landLAB was hired by UCSD to design the landscape associated with the new CNG Fueling station that will be used to fuel the new natural gas campus busses. The site is located on the east campus of UCSD, adjacent to the existing east campus central plant and will ultimately become an integral part of the clean energy park proposed for the remainder of the site. The access to the facility is through a large, existing surface parking lot, careful site planning maintained as many of the parking stalls as possible. In addition, substantial new road medians were designed as vegetated bioswales that capture and cleanse all the stormwater runoff from all newly paved areas, including the new road and adjacent parking lot. Densely planted berms screen the fueling facility and shade paved areas reducing heat island effect. The landscape plan is comprised of 100% California native plant species in an effort to reduce water use and restore native habitat and promote biodiversity.
