SPLA collaborated with NBBJ Architects on the California Institute of telecommunications and information technology facility (CAL-IT2). The project was designed in conjunction with the Academic Court and includes a large open hardscape area adjacent to the court’s shared auditorium. This area is programmed to accommodate large parties and gatherings for the Jacob’s School of Engineering, while at the same time functioning as a breakout space and pre-function area for the court’s shared auditorium. The “passage” is an open air connection that tunnels through the building, connecting Warren Housing and a proposed parking structure with the Academic Court, Warren Mall, and the rest of the UCSD campus.
