SPLA collaborated with Architects Anshen + Allen, San Francisco on a major renovation to the Pomerado Hospital Campus. SPLA was involved in initial site planning for the project, with phase I improvements including new outpatient services pavilion and parking structure. Phase II adds a new nursing tower with vehicular drop off and reconfigured surface parking, emergency room expansion, and relocated helicopter pad. The site planning and design focused on the creation of healing gardens, connections to the surrounding natural landscapes, as well as the implementation of sustainable design strategies to promote a sense of well being and connection to nature. The use of low water use native plant material helped to strengthen the outdoor pedestrian connections via the healing gardens to the existing hospital facilities and phased improvements.
