landLAB collaborated with Artist Noel Harding and the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation Department on the “elevated wetlands” public art project adjacent to the Don Valley Parkway in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The project was sponsored by the Canadian Plastics Industry and consists of six large polystyrene containers that are filled with recycled plastics acting as large hydroponics planters for native plantings from the Don River Valley. Dirty water from the polluted Don River was pumped into the sculpture with solar pumps, and filtered through the containers as well as large ground level wetlands planted with native species. The project has been a huge success as a symbolic interpretive feature promoting the benefits of wetlands, and has been in numerous publications.
